P3R welcomes you...

The INRAE Small Ruminant Phenotyping Center (Pôle de Phénotypage des Petits Ruminants - P3R) is an advanced experimental research facility located in the mixed farming area of the Champagne Berrichonne in central France. P3R works closely with INRAE Animal Genetics (Génétique Animale - GA) department, as well as INRAE Animal Physiology and Farming Systems (PHysiologie Animale et systèmes d'Élevages - PHASE) and Animal Health (Santé Animale - SA) departments.

P3R research focuses on the genetic determinism of biological functions and traits of interest related to sheep and goat farming.

The facilities occupy 19,000m² of buildings, 11,000m² of which are dedicated to farming and experimentation. Since 2021, the unit has been equipped with a 1,850m² phenotyping hall featuring innovative phenotyping tools and behavioral data, with the capacity to house up to 240 sheep or goats of all ages, followed by new goat farming facility and nursery.

The farm covers 620 ha of agricultural land, of which 300 ha is permanent grassland for grazing and supplying fodder to livestock, and 320 ha is dedicated to cereal crops, including a 90 ha experimental system. The unit is also involved in research into synergistic interactions between animals and crops as part of the agro-ecological transition.
